June is packed with holidays in the United States, but one of the most important is Father’s Day. According to history.com, this holiday started in 1908, but was not nationally celebrated until 1910. It didn’t become a federally celebrated holiday, however, until 1972 when President Nixon signed a proclamation making Father’s Day a federal holiday. This year Father’s Day falls on Sunday, June 18th.
It is always difficult for me to figure out what to do for my father for Father’s Day and my friends seem to have the same problem. Personally my dad likes cigars and some stiff drinks. If your dad is the same then find a good cigar shop and ask them to help you pick out a good selection for your dad and pair them with a bottle of his favorite drink whether it be alcoholic or otherwise.
Dad isn’t into the physical gifts? Then head out for a day of golfing or catch a baseball game with him where the refreshments are on you. Maybe being outdoors isn’t his thing, if not then find a good movie theatre around you and see what’s playing on the big screen. Alamo Drafthouse is always playing interesting movies your dad is sure to enjoy.
Whatever your plans for dad, make sure it highlights his special role in your life. Dad’s deal with a lot of problems, but their special day shouldn’t be one of them.
